Some couples choose to forgo formal church weddings and opt for a Las Vegas wedding. Las Vegas is known as the marriage capital of the world and it draws people from all over the country to enter into marriage. The ease of process to get married in Las Vegas is one of the attractions and as they say, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!

Marriage licenses are issued by the Marriage Bureau, located in the Clark County Clerk’s Office. A person age 18 or older may apply for a wedding license as well as individuals who are ages 16 or 17 if they have written parental consent. A minor who is age 15 can apply with written parental consent and a decree issued by a Nevada judge. There is no citizenship or residency requirement to apply for a marriage license; to get married you must provide proof of age and any additional supporting documents and pay the $60 cash fee. Marriage licenses can be issued up to 12 midnight every day, including holidays.

With the marriage license in hand, you can have your wedding ceremony officiated at any of the numerous wedding chapels throughout the greater Las Vegas area. These facilities specialize in weddings and handle a volume of about 150,000 ceremonies a year. This represents a little more than 5 percent of the total weddings performed in the United States annually.

The fees that the various chapels and hotels vary from a few hundred dollars to several thousands. The flexibility afforded you in Las Vegas means that you can plan a large traditional type wedding that approaches the average of $28,000 or be married in minutes at a minimal expense. There are no rules as to what is or is not appropriate as long as it is legal.

Many of the casinos and hotels in Las Vegas can also perform wedding ceremonies. The type of service you want depends on your taste and how quickly you are looking to get married. These services range from quickie, “Do you take this man/woman to be…” to more formal and lavish traditional wedding affairs. Once you possess the marriage license, your wedding can happen within minutes.

A Las Vegas wedding offers different themes and ways to express yourself that are more creative than what is found in traditional wedding settings. A Las Vegas wedding plays to a sense of escapism since you are in a city that plays to pleasure and chance. It is not unusual to see people dressed as Elvis Presley, white cape and sideburns, exchanging vows, or Captain Kirk from Star Trek or even Darth Vader and Princess Lea from Star Wars. Whatever you can imagine for your wedding ceremony can be accomplished in Vegas.
